Year 8 Online Provision

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this email finds you and your family in good health. I write to you primarily to explain that we will be moving to online provision for Year 8 for the whole of week (November 16th to 20th inclusive) and year 9 will be coming back into school. This means, starting on Monday 16th November, all students in Year 8 will remain at home and complete their work via Google Classroom instead of coming into school. Students working at home should follow their normal timetable and lesson timings.

Full information and class codes for Google Classroom and our remote learning provision can be found on our website here:

To explain this decision – we have a number of members of staff who are unable to attend the workplace which has impacted our ability to operate fully for all students and preserve the safety and integrity of our provision. As there are a larger number of children in year 8 self-isolating it is appropriate for year 9 to come back into the academy and for the whole of year 8 to be on remote learning. Only those students who have been identified as close contacts of positive cases, are displaying symptoms or live in the same household as someone displaying symptoms or has tested positive need to self-isolate.

I apologise for the short notice but I’m sure you can appreciate that much of the information regarding staffing and confirming availability for next week has developed throughout today.

We will continue to monitor the situation throughout next week and will return to face to face provision if capacity improves later in the week. Please check your emails and the website for updates later in the week. If we are unable to re-open for Year 8 during the course of next week, we will review the situation ahead of the weekend to provide an update for Monday 23rd November no later than lunchtime on Friday 20th. Years 7, 9, 10, and 11 will continue as normal throughout this week.

I ask that families continue to keep us informed of test results by sending an email to our Covid alert email address: so we can keep our records and register up to date and continue working with Public Health England in tracking cases throughout the community. Can I also ask for you vigilance – it is vital that your child does not come to school if they are displaying symptoms of Covid, if they are living with someone displaying symptoms, if they are awaiting a test, if they are living with someone who is awaiting a test or living with someone who has tested positive. All of these circumstances mean they have to stay at home to preserve the safety of the rest of our community.

For those children in year 8 who are eligible for free school meals, we will be in contact to discuss how this provision can be maintained for you during this week of working from home. If any child in receipt of free school meals is self-isolating the academy will also be in touch to discuss how we can support with still receiving the provision at this time.

We are all living in unprecedented times that are providing almost daily challenges for us. Please stay safe and take care of each other.

Best wishes,

Martyn Jobling

Head of School
