What will I study & how will I be assessed?
The course is divided into various topics including:
- Youth culture
- Lifestyle
- Customs and traditions
- Home and locality
- Global sustainability
- World of work
Sub topics range from homelessness to dream holidays.
The Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening elements are all worth 25% of the final mark awarded. There is no longer a coursework option therefore there will be an expectation for pupils to accumulate language knowledge by regular revision and homework. Dictionaries will not be allowed in the exams however this is compensated by the use of the vocabulary tool Memrise. The exams will include a variety of elements including translation, describing a photo (written and spoken) and role plays. In each of these four skill areas there are two levels of test “Foundation” or “Higher”.
What will I do in lessons?
The MFL department promotes lively lessons, where pupils are encouraged to participate fully. Many authentic resources are used and pupils also have ample opportunity to actively use the language in class. Genuine and relevant reading articles, together with interactive white board learning are the norm. Some lessons are teacher directed while others promote more independent learning.
Where can French take me?
The sky is indeed the limit, many companies value staff that have ability in a foreign language. You can study and work abroad. The Armed Forces are now also expecting a Language for you to climb the ranks. The world is your oyster!
